Ten teams from the Midwest and beyond will converge in Green Bay for Thunda on the Tundra.  The Brewcity Bruisers of Milwaukee and PMI Entertainment Group are hosting the Women’s Flat Track Derby Association’s (WFTDA) North Central Region Playoffs, “Thunda on the Tundra, September 10-12 at the Brown County Veterans Memorial Arena.

There will be 17 bouts in all – 6 on Friday, 6 on Saturday and 5 on Sunday.  The ten teams playing in these bouts will showcase the top level of talent in women’s flat track roller derby in the North Central Region.

Tickets are $18 for a single day pass, $12 for kids 12 & under.  A weekend pass is $45, $30 for kids 12 & under.  Tickets on sale Monday, June 21 at 11am at all Oneida Casino Ticket Star outlets including the Resch Center box office, by phone 494.3401 or toll free 800.895.0071 and on-line at www.ticketstaronline.com.  A complete schedule of bouts will be available at www.thundaonthetundra.com.

The Bruisers, who just finished their fourth season, said hosting such a competition is a natural progression for the league.

“This is another eager step for us to put the Bruisers on the national map of competition and show our dedication to this organization as we step away from our city and reach out to Green Bay,” said Servin’ Justice, Vice President of the Bruisers’ Board of Directors.  ”We will make the WFTDA, Green Bay and all roller derby fans across the nation proud!”

Each fall, the WFTDA organizes four regional qualifier tournaments to determine who will compete in November’s national championship.  The top ten teams in each of the four regions compete in the playoffs and the top three from each tournament move on to vie for 1st place.

The North Central Region include teams from St. Louis, MO, Bloomington, IN, Cleveland, OH, Cincinnati, OH, Louisville, KY, Detroit, MI, Fort Wayne, IN, Dayton, OH, Grand Rapids, MI, Hamilton, Ontario, Madison, WI, St. Paul, MN, Indianapolis, IN, Minneapolis, MN, Columbus, OH, Omaha, NE, Sioux Falls, SD and Chicago, IL.

The messiest of Milwaukee tradition returns, Saturday September 18th.  Back for its fourth go-round, Tomato Romp! will feature two of the East Side’s most beloved activities, the Best Bloody Mary Competition and the Rotten Tomato Fight.  The day kicks off at 10 AM with the East Side Green Market - featuring the most confusing of vegetables (or fruits), the tomato.  The 4th annual Best Bloody Mary Competition begins at 11 AM.  For $10 plus $5 for a chaser, guests have the chance to sip, taste and judge the best bloody marys that participating bars have to offer.  Reigning champs Twisted Fork - People’s Choice and Dogs Bollocks - Judges Pick, are expected to return to defend their titles.  Immediately after the bloody mary winners are announced, 200 fighters will decend upon a cage full of rotten tomatoes.  Interested tomato fighters are encouraged to come early - space if limited.  Fight proceeds will once again go towards fighting hunger in Milwaukee. National Slow Food Day of Action, “Dig In! Break Ground, Break Bread”

Saturday, September 25, 2010, 1-4 pm

Admission: $9 general/$7 students & seniors; children under 6 free (includes admission to the garden, house, and local foods resource fair, and tea and cookies from local vendors) 

Lynden Sculpture Garden launches a year-round series of sustainability events by opening on a Saturday afternoon to celebrate the National Slow Food Day of Action, “Dig In! Break Ground, Break Bread,” with a resource fair that highlights the work of local food activists, organizations, and vendors. The slow food movement envisions a world in which all people can eat food that is good for them, good for the people who grow it, and good for the planet. Drop in to taste, touch and learn more about food that is good, clean and fair. Participants include Slow Food Southeastern Wisconsin, Growing Power, Beepods and more.

Zita’s is teaming up with New Options Salon and Simon Oliver to present a bridal fashion show, Saturday, September 25 at 11 AM at their  E. Silver Spring Drive boutique, as a part of the Whitefish Bay Bridal Walk.

The in-store show will feature both classic and fashion forward looks for brides from well-known brands such as Melissa Sweet, Amsale, Marisa and Alvina.  It will also include fashion for attendants and mothers of the bride, hair and make-up designs by New Options and menswear, provided by Simon Oliver.

2010 Komen Southeast Wisconsin Race for the Cure

The Susan G. Komen Race for the Cure® Series, the largest series of 5K runs/fitness walks in the world, raises significant funds and awareness for the fight against breast cancer, celebrates breast cancer survivorship and honors those who have lost their battle with the disease. Since its inception in 1983, the Komen Race for the Cure series has grown from one local Race with 800 participants to a global series of more than 120 Races with more than 1 million people expected to participate in 2010.

Mel’s Annual Pig Roast


In 1995 a group of friends gathered at the Cedars Lanes in Cedarburg to watch the Green Bay Packers play the Cleveland Browns. About 50 people attended that first year. Each year a few more people heard about it and joined us at the annual event.

The goal of Mel’s Pig Roast has always been to provide a fun-filled afternoon of football and food while raising money for area charities. No Packer game is scheduled this year, but food, fun and games will keep everyone happy. Cost:
$25 per person or $30 at the door

Includes:
Pig Roast, beer, soda, Bloody Marys, Robert’s Frozen Custard

Other Activities:
Silent auction, raffles, Hole-in-One contest
