MURDER CASTLE: The Chronicle of H.H.Holmes
an original play by Aaron Kopec
directed by Erica Case & Greg Bach
produced by Alchemist Productions

Runs Thursdays, Fridays & Saturdays October 7th - October 30th 2010  7:30pm
At The Alchemist Theatre & Bay View Lounge
2569 S. Kinnickinnic, Milwaukee, WI 53207

Tickets are $15 and can be purchased at http://www.alchemisttheatre.com/

Now in it’s third year, The Alchemist Theatre & Alchemist Productions has established a tradition of creating rather over-the-top and exciting Halloween productions.

In 2008, The Alchemist produced the wildly successful "RIPPER" by Jackie Benka which traced one probable theory of who Jack-the-Ripper might have been. The entire lounge and theatre was transformed into a believable, Victorian-era Whitechapel alley.

In 2009, The Alchemist again sold-out every available seat for an original production of "DRACULA: The Undead" where the audience witnessed modern gypsies ritualistically enacting the story of the dark lord at the ruin site of Castle Dracula.

In the fall of 2010, Alchemist Productions is again pulling out all the stops to treat and terrorize theatre patrons with the all-too-real story of Doctor H.H.Holmes, America’s first serial killer.

Playwright Aaron Kopec and directors Erica Case and Greg Bach exhaustively researched the madman and have cleverly condensed the good doctor’s murderous career into a a live production filled with some of Milwaukee’s most talented actors from Optimist, Youngblood, The Boulevard, Sunset Playhouse and others.

It is thought that Holmes may have been responsible for over 200 murders. Some for business and some for pleasure. At the peak of his "career" Dr. Holmes swindled various contractors into building a two-story hotel in the heart of Chicago. This building soon became known as "The Murder Castle" as it was filled with over 100 windowless rooms, maze-like hallways and even hidden chutes that led from the upper floor to vats of acid in the basement!

Patrons to this production will enter through The Bay View Lounge which, for this show, will be decorated to resemble the lobby of "The Castle." Visitors will check in at the front desk and receive a key to their room. After spending some time in the lobby - perhaps trying their luck at a few hands of poker against the wild-west outlaw Marion Hedgepeth (who Holmes served jail time with) patrons will then tour through the dark catacombs of the Murder Castle cellar before finding their way to the theatre... if they are lucky enough to survive secret doors and a maze of torture rooms.

MURDER CASTLE: The Chronicle of H.H.Holmes promises to be yet another completely sold-out production at The Alchemist Theatre and a murderously good time for anyone looking for some professionally produced Halloween entertainment!

This October... Meet the Good Doctor.

 Ludovico Einaudi

His phenomenal CD sales and ability to sell out major concert halls worldwide are confirmation that Einaudi is one of classical music’s success stories of recent years.

After studying at the Conservatory in Milan, and subsequently with Luciano Berio, he spent several years composing in traditional forms.

His music is ambient, meditative and often introspective, drawing on minimalism, world music and contemporary pop. He has made a significant impact in the film world, scoring seventeen films and winning four international awards.

Ludovico is a household name in the UK and Europe and is now being introduced to American audiences. This is his Milwaukee debut.

Eddee Daniel has been observing and photographing construction fences in the landscape for several years, attracted by their obtrusive color and the issues they raise about function, aesthetics--particularly in natural areas--and access. When he exhibited the photographs in 2009, Daniel created a more immediate experience for the viewer by also installing construction fences inside and outside the gallery space. At Lynden, Daniel will continue to explore the fences’ ambiguous functionality, this time among the natural landscaping and permanent artworks of the sculpture garden. He will be joined by Philip Krejcarek, who is constructing sculptures that evoke ladders. Unlike the fences, these ladder-like forms will be defiantly non-functional. The collaborative project will range from the surreal to the whimsical, posing questions about the relationship between artistic creation and functional construction and playing on the very notion of collaborative sculpture. In the gallery, Daniel will present selections from his Accidental Art series—photographs depicting fences erected by construction contractors in natural areas—and Krejcarek will create sculptures using ladders, making a direct connection to the work outside.

This suspenseful story and highly-theatrical production features period costumes and scenery design by Lez Brotherston, and a lively new lighting design from Emmy Award winner David Grill. Dancers from Milwaukee Ballet II join the Company in this thrilling show accompanied by Philip Feeney’s dramatic score performed live by the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra.
