Coppélia
Date: Thursday, May. 19-22, 2011
In this popular 19th century ballet, a life-size doll attracts the attention of a local villager so entranced by its beauty that his wife-to-be must impersonate the doll in order to win back his love. Wild chaos erupts, but in the end all is forgiven. Contrary to E.T.A. Hoffman’s dark tale The Sandman which inspired the show, the light-hearted Coppélia contains some of the most entertaining and humorous ballet scenes that audiences will ever enjoy. This whimsical production performed by the Company, Milwaukee Ballet II and dancers from Milwaukee Ballet School features gorgeous costumes, colorful scenery, and Léo Delibes’ classic score performed live by the Milwaukee Ballet Orchestra.
