From biplane walkers to the thick-headed stuntmen of Jackass, the daredevils of history have traded great risk for fame and fortune. In the 1970s, one such daredevil rose to stardom and inspired people young and old around the world: Evel Knievel.

To mark the 35th anniversary of his Wembley Stadium jump, the Harley-Davidson Museum temporary exhibit True Evel: The Amazing Story of Evel Knievel will tell the story of the man behind the performer through fascinating artifacts drawn from both the Harley-Davidson Museum Archives and the Knievel family collection.

Fine and decorative arts dating from the 15th to the 18th centuries reside at the Villa Terrace Decorative Art Museum, overlooking a stunning formal garden and dramatic staircase leading to Lake Michigan. The Milwaukee Zoo is one of the nation’s top zoos and is home to more than 2,500 specimens. Sports fans can catch a Brewers baseball game at Miller Park, or take in a Bucks basketball game or Milwaukee Admirals hockey at the Bradley Center.

Milwaukee’s Lakefront and Riverwalk District

There are many things to do along lakefront year-round, but things really heat up in the summer! Bradford Beach is the center of activity with concerts, family days, volleyball leagues, and a beach hut. A number of boat cruises showcase Milwaukee’s river and harbor, including Edelweiss Boats and the Milwaukee Boat Line. The S/V Denis Sullivan is a 137-ft three masted top sail schooner that sets sail twice a day during season and stands as flagship for the United Nations Environment Program. Fat Cat Catamaran provides 2 hour tours of the lakefront.

The War Memorial Center provides stunning view of the lake while standing as a memorial to those who died in WWII. Veterans Park is also a favorite kite-flying venue and home to Gift of Wings.

Milwaukee’s Nature and Outdoors

The Milwaukee County Park system includes golf courses, park concerts, swimming pools and the famous Milwaukee Domes. Boerner Botanical Gardens is reminiscent of an English country manor with self-guided tours, docent-guided tours for groups. The Schlitz Audubon Nature Center is a 185-acre urban green area with six miles of hiking trails, beachfront and a 60-ft observation tower. Wisconsin’s only urban State Park is accessible via a jogging and walking path nearby the Summerfest grounds and leading towards Discovery World at Lakeshore State Park. Wisconsin Golf at Grand Geneva regarded as one of the top award winning golf resorts in the country, home to 36 holes of championship golf on The Brute and The Highlands courses.
